About Acoustics
Sound Proofing term defined as to reduce the sound pressure with respect to a specified sound source and receptor. There are several approaches to reduce or block sound.
Absorption means to reduce resonance in the room by absorption or diffusion. Absorption will reduce the overall sound pressure level. For best results it's important to absorb the sound over wide rage of frequencies i.e low, mid and high frequencies
The term to measure the absorption value of the product is called NRC (Noise reduction Coefficient). In other words, this is the capacity of the product to absorb the sound. NRC is the average absorption at all frequencies.
insulation is the sound transmission traveling from one area to another or it is to block the sound traveling from one area to another.
The term to measure the blocking value of the product is called STC (Sound Transmission Class). In other words, this is the capacity of the product to block the sound. STC is the average blocking at all frequencies. In general Higher the STC the better will be the Insulation.
Decibels is a term to measure noise level.
Hertz is the term to measure frequencies.
Diffusion is the spreading of sound energy evenly in a given environment. A perfectly diffusive sound space is one in which the reverberation time is the same at any listening position. Most interior spaces are non-diffusive, the reverberation time is considerably different around the room
